The Chocolate Lover's Ultimate Chocolate Milkshake
The Chocolate Lover's Ultimate Chocolate Milkshake
By: Sabrina Huda Sanchez
The classic timeless chocolate milkshake. It is a simple recipe of ice cream, milk, and chocolate flavor but the possibilities are endless! Learn how you can take your shake to the next level or go straight to the recipe below.
Key to CreaminessWhat makes a milkshake creamy? Fat. You can make a shake using any ice cream or ice cream substitute but if you want to achieve a smooth creaminess then you should use an ice cream with a high-fat content and avoid reduced-fat kinds. The other factor to consider is the milk. Whole milk is a better choice since it contains a higher percentage of fat compared to skim milk or even soy milk. If you want the ultimate, creamy milkshake, swap milk for heavy cream. Of course this won’t be considered a healthy dessert but it will taste amazing! |
Adding TextureBasic shakes are one-dimensional. To add new flavor or another texture, you can mix in chips, sprinkles, chopped fruit, popping pearls, chopped up candy bars -- just about any tiny bite-sized treats! You may need to add a colossal straw or a spoon to help you enjoy the add-ins. |
Changing ThicknessFor those that like to eat their chocolate milkshake as opposed to drinking it, reducing the amount of liquid will create a thicker consistency. Use half the suggested milk amount and gradually add more until it reaches the desired thickness. Ice could also be added in the blender to thicken it up. Use crushed ice or add the whole ice cubes into the blender first before the ice cream and milk so it is closer to the blade and gets crushed. Another way to make a thick shake is by adding a little yogurt or crème fraîche to the recipe. Others prefer the effortless enjoyment of drinking their shake through a straw. For this, you simply add more milk and blend for longer. Additional liquid will thin out your drink. |
